Specifics on OFA 1, 2, and 3

Level 1

The Level 1 course includes minor wound and musculoskeletal (sprains and strains) injury management that may allow an injured person to return to work following the assessment and treatment. OFA Level 1 first aid training also gives the attendant the basic skills to recognize and manage life-threatening emergencies. Basic life support skills that will keep an injured person alive until more qualified help can arrive.

Level 2

The Occupational First Aid Level 2 course is designed for industries located in close proximity to hospitals (less than 20 min.) Skills include; minor wound care, upper limb immobilization techniques, CPR & obstructed airway management, as well as medical conditions and regulatory requirements by the WCB. 

Level 3

The Occupational First Aid Level 3 is a 70-hour program designed to provide advanced life saving first aid skills for remote worksites or employers with large workforces and are located more than 20 minutes away from medical aid or hospital. Initial certification requires full participation and course attendance.

Frequently asked questions

How long does my OFA certification valid?

Upon successful completion of a practical and written examination, candidates will be certified for 3 years.

What are the prerequisites for the OFA classes?

You must have the physical ability to perform first aid skills required to complete the learning tasks. No previous first aid training is required. To be a workplace designated first aid attendant in BC, you must be at least 16 years old. 

For OFA 2, a restricted ticket is issued until the trainee is 19 years of age or older. 

What do I need to bring to the class?

Please bring a government-issued picture ID and anything else you will need to work comfortably in a seated, standing and kneeling position.
